D.I.Y. Apple Cider Vinegar Toner

Friday, 31 January 2014

I was watching something on tv recently, about celebrities and their best skincare secrets.  One of the things mentioned, was that Scarlett Johansson  is known to use Apple Cider Vinegar  on her skin.  I remembered that I had a bottle in my cupboard, so I decided to search for some information on how to use it as a toner.

I came across quite a few different recipes and variations on how to use it, so I decided to try a few and see what method worked best with my skin.

The combination I settled on is one part Apple Cider Vinegar, to two parts filtered water.  It's as simple as that, and it does wonders as a toner for my skin!  I like to keep it in an airtight glass jar, but you can store it however you like.

I have quite sensitive skin, and I always prefer to use natural products where possible, so I really liked the idea of this, and I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely it is to use!

If you don't like the smell of ACV - it's quite potent - then this might not be for you, but I find that the smell is only there as I'm putting it on, and then it disappears.  Another thing to be aware of, is that this WILL  sting if applied to an open sore or cut, so be careful to avoid using it on any areas you may have an abrasion.

I really like using this toner, and I find it leaves my skin feeling really clean and refreshed.  I follow it up with my Vitamin C serum and my skin feels amazing!

You can find ACV in most supermarkets and it is generally very affordable, however for this purpose it is definitely better to buy organic from a health food store where possible.

I would love to know if you decide to give this a try, so please do comment and let me know what you think and whether or not you find it beneficial to your skin.  I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have!

My Goals and Hopes For 2014

Friday, 24 January 2014

I can't believe we're almost in February!  I guess I have left this post a little bit late considering, but better late than never right?  Rather than a "New Years Resolution"  post, as such, I decided to just put together a list of things I would like to achieve this year, without any pressure.

Firstly, the thing I am most determined to do this year, is to lose weight.  I know everyone says that, but I desperately  want to lose the extra weight I've put on these past couple of years, and just get back to a size I feel comfortable at.  Right now, I feel really miserable about the way I look, and I desperately want to change that.  I've been struggling to lose weight, due to medication and hormonal issues etc., so I've decided that I'm going to try and focus on toning exercises the most - as well as  diet and cardio of course.  So, here's hoping that 2014 will be the year I start feeling better about myself and my body!

The next thing I really want to do this year, is start saving money.  My fiancee and I are struggling quite a bit at the moment financially, so I'm determined to work extra hard and start being able to save.  We have so many things we are wanting to save for - our wedding being the main one, a house, children, travel... but so far it's been impossible for us to save anything.  So, this year, my hope is that we will pay off our debts and begin to save for our future.

Another goal for me this year, is to blog more and eventually get my YouTube channel going.  At the moment, I just don't have the confidence for videos, even though I've been wanting to do them for a while now.  I posted a video a few weeks back, and after an hour I took it down as I panicked about the poor quality etc.  I don't have a decent camera setup, so that's another thing I want to save for before I give YouTube a proper shot.

A few things I want to do more of this year are to; drink more water, be more organized, read more, exercise more and spend more time outdoors.

I hope to spend more time with friends this year as well as to make more effort to build new friendships.  After I got really sick, I felt that quite a few of my friends drifted away.  They slowly stopped making contact and some were afraid to be around me, as they didn't know how to act or what to say to me.  I have felt really alone because of this and I've missed having my friends around me.  So, this year, I hope I will be able to rebuild some of those friendships, and also find the confidence to make new friends as I go.

So those are a few of my goals for this year.  I would love to hear what your goals and hopes are also, so as always please do feel free to get in touch or comment below.  I hope 2014 will be an amazing one for everyone!

The Liebster Award

Friday, 17 January 2014

I was recently nominated for the Liebster Award  by the lovely Becki from Tianne Cherie's Lashes and Brows.  In all honesty, I had never heard of the Liebster Award before, so I wasn't sure what it was all about.

As Becki explains in her post, The Liebster award is designed to help up and coming bloggers to discover other bloggers that also have less than 200 followers.  It's a great way to network and get to know other bloggers and their lovely blogs.

So, here are the rules:

1. You must link back to the person who nominated you.
2. You must answer the 11 questions given by the nominee before you.
3. You pick 11 nominees with under 200 followers to answer your questions.
4. You cannot nominate the person who nominated you.
5. You must tell the nominees that they have been nominated by you.

Definitely head over and check out Tianne Cherie's Lashes and Brows - I'm sure Becki would love for you to stop by!

Here are my answers to the 11 questions Becki has given me:
  1. Who is your fashion icon?
Nicole Richie.  She always looks stunning and I love her individuality.
  2. What is your favourite beauty website?
I don't think I could pick just one.  I love so many beauty blogs and sites.  To buy from I love crushcosmetics.com and priceline.com.au
  3. Your favourite makeup brand?
At the moment I'm in love with Benefit.  I also love Napoleon, M.A.C. and Chi Chi.
  4. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I just love writing and I really enjoy the creative aspect with the photo's etc.  I've also really enjoyed getting to know new people.
  5. Where is your favourite place in the world to have visited?
I've never been overseas and I'm not sure where my favourite place here in Australia would be.
  6. What is your favourite hobby (aside from blogging?)
I love reading and I really enjoy baking.
  7. What is your dream career?
    Blogging full time.
  8. What is your favourite thing about yourself?
I struggle with this question because I have very little confidence.  But I guess I would say my heart is my favourite thing.  I feel like I'm a kind person and would do anything to help anyone.
  9. Your biggest fear?
    Growing old.
  10. What is your favourite piece of make up that you cannot live without?
Concealer.  I think even if you have nothing else, a few dabs of concealer will still go a long way.
  11. If you could meet anybody, dead or alive who would it be?
    Marilyn Monroe.
Here are my nominees:
Here are my 11 questions for my nominees (I'm going to be cheeky and use the same ones as Becki!):
  1. Who is your fashion icon?
  2. What is your favourite beauty website?
  3. Your favourite makeup brand?
  4. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
  5. Where is your favourite place in the world to have visited?
  6. What is your favourite hobby (aside from blogging?)
  7. What is your dream career?
  8. What is your favourite thing about yourself?
  9. Your biggest fear?
  10. What is your favourite piece of make up that you cannot live without?
  11. If you could meet anybody, dead or alive who would it be?

Looking forward to reading my nominee's responses x

What I Got For Christmas Tag

Saturday, 4 January 2014

This year, I was so lucky to receive some really lovely Christmas gifts from friends and family.  So I thought it would be nice to do the What I Got For Christmas tag, and share what I got with you all.

The most special gift I got this year, is definitely this little cutie pie!  I have been wanting a mini lop bunny for such a long time now, and this year my fiancée decided to give me this beautiful little munchkin!  He actually gave me the hutch as my gift, so I was then able to choose my own bunny.  I thought it was the sweetest gift and it didn't take me long to find my new little baby.  He is a pure bred, lilac mini lop and I have called him, CricketLOVE!

From my mother-in-law (to be), I got a slow cooker.  I was rapt with this gift because I desperately want to try and eat a lot healthier this coming year, and there are so many lovely, healthy meals that I'll be able to make in a slow cooker.  I'm looking forward to trying out some new recipes, especially once I go back to work and life starts getting busy again.

My fiancée, Gary's family gave me a lovely gift bag, filled with Raspberry & Vanilla body products and some different nail polishes.  The body products smell amazing, and I was told that Gary's niece picked it out for me, so that makes it all the more special!

My best friend in the whole world, Mandy got me the Benefit Little Love Potions gift box.  I LOVE this so much!  I love Benefit products, and this little pack has so many little goodies in it!  The products I've tried so far, have all been beautiful, so I can't wait to try them all!

My lovely brother gave Gary and I a very generous Coles Myer gift card, which we are so, very grateful for, and will be so helpful to us at this time.

From one of my cousins, I got a pretty little set of antique-looking hair clips and charms.  They are really lovely!

I'm very fortunate to work in a lovely office, filled with lovely people, and we always enjoy exchanging gifts during the last week of work.  My Kris Kringle gift was a Marilyn Monroe canvas print (my KK clearly knows me well), and a lovely mug from kikki.K, which I love!

From other friends, I also got some makeup brushes, a beautiful Marilyn Monroe mug, a makeup bag, some homemade Christmas cookies and a bottle of lovely Champagne.

I feel very spoilt this year, and I love everything that I got!  I'm very lucky to have such lovely friends and family!
